Hi! All you beautiful kids joining us at this year’s Solfest!
Here’s a little peep into your own special area.
The Kids Area is a special place right at the heart of Solfest and it’s all for you! Solfest is not just about the music; it’s about spending time with family and friends, making new friends, having great new experiences and making the most special memories!
We offer a small village of activities within Solfest and we believe in quality entertainment to suit all of you. Your area has grown every year from 2003, it has kept 100’s of children and parents entertained over the last 14 years. We don’t have stuff for sale in our area, or put empty shows on that you’ll forget in a flash. Instead we offer a kids area that gives you the opportunity to create things to take home, learn new crafts, take part in theatre sessions, dance offs, tug of war, parties, games, storytelling and face paints! This year we have our very own Kids Area gardener, Mr ‘not in’ Bloom. We will have a colourful garden with lots of plants and a sensory garden for you little ones.
We have lovely workshop tents you can use whatever the weather, lots of recycled art for you to see and recycled board games for all your family to play.
We have lots of great stuff for you teenagers as well.
For parents with under 4’s, we also have The Baby Chill Out Tent, which provides a buggy park under cover, baby changing facilities and somewhere for parents and little ones to relax and play.
I could talk about your area all day, but I would just like to say, I hope you all have a fantastic time this year and take home the very best of memories.
REMEMBER! The adults at the festival can also relax without having to dig into their wallets because everything in the Kids Area is FREE of charge.
SEE YOU ON THE FIELD

Some of our activities:
At Solfest 2017, we welcome back The Ladybird Project - the beautiful red big top in the children’s area which has become a landmark and a tradition! The fabulous crew of The Ladybird Project will provide a whole host of different day me activities, arts and crafts, workshops, fun and games – all specially designed for the Solfest children and young people! In the evenings they delight in bringing family friendly Cabaret, themed discos and Cabaret talent shows. These guys are sure to keep the kids entertained, day in and day out. They’re fantastic!
Eden Ventures are making a return to Solfest this year in our workshop tent which is crammed full of arts and crafts. Eden Ventures team will help you create giant parade puppets, fairy wings, and masks, including antennae, eyes on stalks and even natural mandalas. Your child will love creating with the team and they’ll be able to take home some special handmade items which will keep their memories of Solfest alive.
A haven for babies, toddlers and weary parents. The little people can crawl and play around on a dry carpeted area, with lots of toys and equipment, while weary parents can refuel with a brew on a comfy couch. There’s a quiet area for feeding and a nappy changing area.
This area is designed to to give you and your small children a break together – very important if the weather isn’t great! There will be two volunteers in the tent to make you a cuppa, or just chat with you and your children. HOWEVER they are not there to babysit! You have to stay with the children.
New to Solfest 2017, we are welcoming Kym and the lovely ladies from the MAMA BEAR workshop. Throughout the weekend there will be workshop sessions to suit all ages.
Friday will be aimed at the younger children with Creature Feature crafts and Solfest Swirls and a chance to make something to decorate the unique Solfest family tree, such as leaves, birds and bats.
On Saturday there will be workshops for making bead and pasta bracelets, and wind chimes. On Sunday, there will be workshops for making recycled plant pots and planting seeds.
MAMA BEAR have their very own Solfest family tree which will be decorated with all the children’s creations but dont forget to collect them to take them home.
The MAMA BEAR workshop, where memories are made!
This year in the Kids’ Area, we welcome Abi with her face paints. Abi is ready to transform you into just what you fancy – from a faery to Batman to a wild tiger! .Abi will be hanging around in the kids area all weekend, so look out for the face paints sign.
Come and enjoy some gardening fun with Mr ‘Not in Bloom’, with lots of seed planting and general craziness! Your kids are sure to be entertained with this crazy gardener!
Trailer Trash will also be joining us again this year at Solfest. This is the amazing youth club for teenagers which provides pool, table football and somewhere for teens to hang out! We cannot wait to welcome Trailer Trash back for 2017.
Ian Douglas returns to Solfest this year. He’s a storyteller and theatre maker, living and working in West Cumbria. Ian loves to tell stories in all sorts of places, including festivals, across Britain. He’ll make you smile and think – and maybe think up some stories of your own!
